Celtic back in for Owen Beck, but haven’t met Liverpool’s £3m valuation

Celtic yet to meet the Liverpool’s valuation for left-back Owen Beck with the Anfield club apparently looking for a fee of £3m for the defender who spent much of last season on loan at Dundee.

The Liverpool site daveockop.com, with over half a million followers via their X account, mentions Celtic chasing a permanent deal for Beck and reports that both QPR and Leeds are looking at a loan deal. On their website they also mention interest from theRangers.

They report that Owen Beck was one of a number of young players hoping to impress the new Liverpool manager Arne Slot before the new season begins. However Beck’s chances were limited on the pre-season tour in the States and Beck was ill this week which resulted in him missing out on both the Sevilla and Las Palmas friendlies.

The Celtic Star flagged up Beck as a possible left-back signing ahead of Dundee’s early season visit to Celtic Park and he certainly did impress that day. However on his second visit earlier this year he was run ragged by Yang as Celtic recorded their biggest win of the season.

In between those games, Beck was recalled to Liverpool and was subbed on late in a game against Bournemouth to prevent him being able to sign for Celtic at the end of the January window, as he’d already played for two teams in that season.

Celtic’s interest has remained bit so far the club hasn’t met Liverpool’s £3m valuation. The Anfield club apparently want Beck to sign a new deal then go out on loan.

It looks pretty clear that Brendan Rodgers wanted to sign Beck in January and that is still looking at signing the Liverpool Academy in this transfer window.  If Beck rejects the offer of a new deal at Liverpool to pursue first team football elsewhere, Celtic’s hand would be strengthened considerably.

However it’s fair to say that reaction from Celtic Supporters both in January and at the moment, remains mixed. Dundee supporters raved about him last season, believing that Beck was the best left back playing in the Scottish Premiership.

Meanwhile Sky Sports Italy are reporting that Atalanta are expected to return with a firth bid for Matt O’Riley after Celtic quickly rejected their fourth bid of £20M from the Italian side on Saturday evening. The Europa League winners from last season are in the Champions League this season are at least £5m short of Celtic’s valuation after being advised of the situation on four previous occasions.

If they don’t meet the asking price it seems pretty unlikely that the Danish international midfielder will be signing for the Italian side.

  1. Surely we could get better for £3M.
What is it with our club ?

We can never just ask a club “How much do you want ?” and if the figure is too high then move on. This continually going back for the same players over and over and over again is embarrassing.
It also shows that, whatever list we have is extremely short.

  2. It’s about time that Rodgers started to make some decisions about what his intentions are regarding the LB position imo?
This contract situation regarding Taylor needs to be resolved, one way or the other at this stage imo?
Hardly makes much sense with the good few players, already signing improved contracts, while under Rodgers watch?
Yet, with Taylor, there are delays, which are hardly helping ourselves with the knock on effects?
Any potential new LB would be potentially looking at game time on offer?
So would Beck be prepared to sign for ourselves, if going to be considered as a backup option for Taylor, if he was to sign a new contract?
Same situation potential exists for any LB we might be interested in at present?
Then where does that leave Anderson?
Or is he already regarded as just another young player who isn’t going to make it at our club?
Would Beck be really the upgrade upon Taylor, that so many are looking for?
Certainly could bring the quality issue Rodgers is banging the drum about into question potentially?
All the while this contract situation regarding Taylor remains unresolved, then it looks like we are going to continue to go around in circles regarding the LB position imo?
Either Rodgers wants Taylor or he doesn’t as his first choice LB, and still none the wiser upon such a decision?
Couldn’t be totally convinced that Beck is the solution if Rodgers is looking for an upgrade upon Taylor in the position imo?
And with only a 3M fee involved, it doesn’t look like Rodgers has even made a decision upon the position either at present imo?
