Celtic have been told that they can sign Moi Elyounoussi for £9m after Southampton marked the Norwegian for the door. The fee would have to match the price that Celtic paid for Odsonne Edouard in 2018.

The Daily Record are reporting that the club’s fears of affordability in terms of the fee and wages were unfounded and they could sign the 25-year-old.

Elyounoussi was reported as being on a huge £65k wage; however, it has been reported that this was far off the mark. Instead, it was more likely that Elyounoussi was currently on parity with some of Celtic’s best earners.

The only question that remains is whether Celtic would be willing to push the boat out and sign the ex-Basel man. Southampton signed Elyounoussi for £16m in 2018 but this season, Elyounoussi was sent on loan as the Saints continue to fight for their survival.

Elyounoussi has scored 7 goals in 13 loan appearances for Neil Lennon’s side but a foot injury has kept him out of the team. He had previously said that he would be willing to stay should both clubs agree a deal.
