As Celtic have four players away at the World Cup in Qatar this year – as is customarily the case with FIFA – the Hoops will receive additional sums of money for their players’ participation. It’s known as Solidarity Payments and could come in handy as a nice bonus to the recent inconvenience of international tournament football.
Daizen Maeda, Josip Juranovic, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Aaron Mooy were all away representing their respective countries of late, and all will net Celtic a decent sum for their efforts in the Middle East. All four have made it to the knockout stages of the competition which is always a good thing for player and club.
Cameron Carter-Vickers and the USA have been the first of the Celtic contingent to be knocked out in the Round of 16 – faltering 3-1 to the Netherlands this afternoon. The big centre-back only managed one appearance and was lauded for it but his coach decided to drop him for the knockout phase against the Dutch.
Despite going out, Cameron is going to net the Bhoys a healthy $238,840 to put into the coffers for Ange and the club, according to Scottish football Twitter account, Inside The SPFL. With others yet to play, we could be looking at turning over a tidy profit from this World Cup, especially if the remaining Celts go further than CCV.
