Celtic closing in on £6m deal for ex-Arsenal central defender

Celtic are closing in on a £6m deal to sign Auston Trusty from Sheffield United. The 26-year-old has emerged as a target over the last week as Brendan Rodgers targeted a left-sided central defender to partner with Cameron Carter-Vickers.

Reporting on Twitter/X, Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph has stated that a deal is imminent between the clubs.

Trusty is reportedly on his way to Glasgow in order to complete a medical and finalise personal terms over a long-term contract. Born in Media, Pennsylvania, Trusty made his name with Philadelphia Union  and Coronado Rapids before making a move to Arsenal in 2022. Loans back to Rapid and Birmingham City followed a permanent £5m move to The Blades. After 37 appearances for United, as they were relegated, Trusty looks set to make the switch to Scotland to compete in Europe and for silverware.

Celtic have been looking to strengthen across the backline with Alex Valle arriving from Barca to compete with Greg Taylor. It was clear that the club were looking bring in another defender to partner with Carter-Vickers.

Celtic have agreed a deal to sign Arne Engels from Augsburg. The Belgian midfielder has been Celtic’s primary target in the last days.

  1. Looks like our defensive set up is nearly finally completed at long last now?
    Still remains unclear as to who will actually form our strongest defensive set up Still?
    Starting to look more likely that Bain will possibly get the no2 keeper role, within our CL squad.
    Especially as we still haven’t got the full 8 in place yet, by the looks of things?
    Should be able to allow for more rotation in our defensive line, when the increasing of midweek fixtures, start impacting upon the squad, moreso than at present
