The Celtic Star broke the news to the support last night that Clarissa Larisey was leaving Celtic for Swedish side BK Häcken. And now Celtic have officially confirmed the news that the Canada International striker, top goalscorer and perhaps the best player in the SWPL1 has now left Celtic to sign for Häcken.
Larisey starred for Celtic on both cup final wins last season, playing in different positions in each game. It was only after 40-goal striker Charlie Wellings left in the summer that Larisey got the chance to play through the middle at Celtic in her preferred position as centre-forward and the goals started to flow.
Clarissa hadn’t been capped at any level for Canada whose Women’s side is one of the best in the World and they are also the current Olympic Champions. So it was a huge boost for the player to make her breakthrough while at Celtic into the national team where she has already played against the likes of Australia and Brazil and has scored and had an assist.
The move to a more established league is a sensible option for the player who has lit up the women’s game in Scotland over the last season and a half. Favourite for this season’s Player of the Year and top goalscorer 23 year old Larisey leaves for a bigger stage with our best wishes.
It was fun while it lasted Cal! Thanks for the memories and remember once a Celt, always a Celt…
