Celtic this evening confirmed that the club’s appeal against the red card issued to Hyunjun Yang at Tynecastle on Sunday after the intervention of theRangers supporting VAR official John Beaton, has been rejected.
The official Celtic FC website confirmed that the appeal had been thrown out, as we said it would, while the club reveal that they are “surprised and extremely disappointed at this decision.”
We get the disappointment but not the surprise. It would have been a shock if the Scottish FA managed to look at Yang’s high foot reasonably, as Brendan Rodgers said there was zero intent and very little danger to the Hearts player who admittedly made a meal of the incident. The on-field decision by Don Robertson was not a clear and obvious error, otherwise all sorts of players would have received red cards for high boots. The club’s appeal over the red card shown to Hyunjun Yang in Sunday’s game at Tynecastle has been dismissed at an SFA hearing today (Tuesday).
A club spokesperson said: “We have received notification that the club’s claim has been dismissed.
“Clearly we are surprised and extremely disappointed at this decision.”
Hyunjun Yang will now receive a two-match suspension.
