Celtic are reportedly considering a move for Derby County’s Lee Buchanan. According to The Daily Record, Celtic are eyeing the versatile left-back as they look to capitalise on Derby’s precarious financial situation by offering £2m for the England U21 Internationalist.

Nottingham Forest bid worth £2m according to The Nottingham Post but this was kicked out as Wayne Rooney refused to sell to a Championship rival, especially not their local rivals. Celtic could therefore swoop and offer a deal for the left-back but there are positions that require more immediate attention – like right-back and goalkeeper.

Buchanan has made 44 appearances for Derby’s first team and is considered a rising star by Derby. The issue with buying from Derby are that they currently only have 9 players registered ahead of the new season and have a ban on signing players from other clubs, meaning that they will need to scour the free-agent market. This issue will be getting Derby to give up one of their best players when they have a year (and the option of a further year) on the deal for Buchanan.
