Celtic could be in line for millions as Manchester United want Odsonne Edouard

In a way we all knew that this day would come, it happened with Moussa Dembele and you can argue that Odsonne Edouard has been even more impressive.

Certainly in a goal scoring sense you have to admire Eddy – Dembele struck 17 times in the league during his first season and only nine in the last, while Edouard has 20 already this term.

When you also consider that The Daily Record reported that Lyon signed Dembele for £19.8m, you have to think that Edouard could go for a lot more than that.

Of course it would be terrible to see Edouard go at this point, but The Manchester Evening News reported that Man United are considering a move for him this Summer, so it’s hard not to see the pound signs either.

There are plenty of things that play into Celtic’s hands here, and it means they could hold out for a truly great fee.

Firstly Manchester United are desperate, the fans are getting restless with the board and they are also under fire for being unable to complete transfers, so another failed approach would only add to that. They also have a lot of money, so it could be easy to see a fee of £30-£40m at least.

Dembele’s performances in France should help to bump up Eddy’s pricetag

The other thing is the performances of Dembele in Lyon and Celtic’s progress in Europe. It shows that players from the Scottish leagues should be taken seriously, and that can only help to drive the price up.

The best case scenario for Celtic and the fans is seeing Eddy stay for a good while yet, but if he does go then it’s important to get a truly game-changing fee for him, and this could be their chance to do just that.
