DECLAN GALLAGHER was a colossus at the back for Scotland last night. Fulham’s Mitrovic was kept quiet by the big Motherwell defender, who has continued an impressive run of form with the national team. However, this wasn’t a one off as the he has offered Motherwell a defensive stability since joining from Livingston.
Gallagher, 29, started his career at Celtic before moving to Clyde then Dundee before Livi. An off-field incident probably hampered any hopes of Gallagher reaching the top of the game but the result in Belgrade proves that he can, through hard work.
Declan Gallagher, what a hero.
He was outstanding tonight, absolutely immense.

Marshall will obviously – and rightly – get the headlines. But what about Declan Gallagher tonight btw? Sensational performance. Mitrovic in his back pocket. 6 caps and 6 wins. Has that ever happened before? 👏🏻 pic.twitter.com/0g50w6NDtT

Celtic would be able to open contract talks with Gallagher on January 1, with a view to joining the club in the summer of 2021. Although, such was the case with Gary Mackay-Steven back in 2015, the club can offer a small fee to bring that forward.
OMG what do we do now?
Absolutely Brilliant Scotland
Well done Steve Clark.
Celtic get Declan Gallagher signed 1 Jan

Stephen Robinson will be keen to secure Gallagher on a new deal but the defender is certainly someone that the Celtic should look at, especially considering that he is a free agent next summer. Gallagher joined the Well from Livingston on a two year deal back in 2019 and has impressed. He wouldn’t be the first player to come to Celtic in his early 30’s with Paul Hartley coming to mind and impressing despite being ‘on the wrong side’ of 30.
Gallagher was on the scoresheet versus Celtic last weekend and if his performances haven’t flagged up the interest of Celtic then questions need to be asked of the recruitment team at Celtic. With AC Milan likely to reignite their interest in Kris Ajer and Shane Duffy’s loan ending, the club may need to plan for recruitment of another central defender and they could do a lot worse than a free transfer, Scotland internationalist.
