Former Celtic loanee Jonjoe Kenny looks set to team up with Derrick Boyata with Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin. The full-back spent time on loan at Celtic in 2021 but now looks set to move on from Goodison after they fended off relegation last season. Frank Lampard’s side had made him an offer but he looks set to return to the Bundesliga.
The right-back slot was one in which Celtic were desperately needing cover with Frimpong leaving for Bayer Leverkusen in a deal worth £11.5m. Kenny appeared to be an exciting prospect and the club faced competition from Burnley to bring the player in during the January window; however, he failed to live up to any hype and his performances versus Rangers proved that he was not good enough to be at Celtic. The Clarets were quoted £8m when they inquired about the former England U21 but he ended up at Celtic Park. In his time at the club, Kenny made 15 appearances and assisted 4 times.
It was a dismal period for Celtic; however, Ange Postecoglou’s arrival as well as signing Josip Juranovic and rejuvenating Tony Ralston has resulted in Celtic’s right back position becoming one of the strongest positions on the park.
