Celtic has reached an agreement with FC Augsburg to sign midfielder Arne Engels for a fee of €13m, subject to a medical which is scheduled for Friday.

“So ah telt them aw tae calm doon”

Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg confirms the news that the Celtic support has been waiting for, Brendan Rodgers has got his replacement signing for Matt O’Riley who left the club for Brighton earlier this week.

Florian Plettenberg reports:

Exclusive! Arne #Engels will join Celtic. Total agreement between FC Augsburg and Celtic has been reached now! CEO Michael Nicholson and FCA boss Michael Ströll have finalised the deal today as sources from UK confirm.

▫️FCA will receive €13m in total and guaranteed

▫️20 % sell-on clause for FCA

▫️Medical booked for Friday!

20 y/o midfielder was the desired target for Brendan Rodgers. Smart deal for all parties involved.

A quick currency convertor tells us that Celtic are paying £10,940,595.76 for Engels, easily a club record signing and also a major statement that the club is at long last showing real intent as far as the Champions League is concerned.

The 20% sell-on clause appears to imply tough negotiations with the German side although Celtic may also have a similar percentage in their deal with Brighton. Let’s hope that there are no medical mishaps tomorrow and that pen is put to paper on this deal.

Too soon for Engels to make the bench on Sunday? It would be nice!
