Celtic Japan Tour 2023 – Yokohama F. Marinos v Celtic match confirmed

Celtic this morning confirmed that the club will play Ange Postecoglou’s old side Yokohama F. Marinos in the first match of this summer’s Japan Tour 2023. Ange Postecoglou’s back-to-back champions and possible Treble Winners will face his former club at the Nissan Stadium on Wednesday, 19 July and it’s a match that the Celtic manager is looking forward to.

“I’m delighted to be taking Celtic to Japan this summer and it’s a tour made even more special by the prospect of facing my old team, Yokohama F. Marinos,” Ange told the official Celtic FC website. “It’s a great club that holds some special memories for me and I look forward to meeting up with friends there in July.”

The game will also be a special one for Daizen Maeda, who is also returning to his former club, having spent 18 months there before moving to Scotland to be re-united with Ange Postecoglou at Celtic. Daizen too is relishing the prospect of returning with Celtic to play Yokohama F. Marinos.

“I’m really looking forward to our pre-season visit to Japan and in particular, returning to play against Yokohama F. Marinos,” Daizen said to the Celtic website. “It is a club which has played a major role in my career and, of course, it will be a pleasure to return home with Celtic and see my friends at the club and the Marinos supporters.”

Yokohama F. Marinos midfielder, Takuya Kida gave his thoughts in the news that his side will be taking on the Champions of Scotland in July.  “I am very excited to play against Celtic FC, led by Ange Postecoglou, who has made a great contribution to our club,” Kida said. “I have friends in Celtic FC with whom I have shared good times. There are many other great players as well. We will do our best and play together to show the world how great Yokohama F. Marinos can be.”
