The Scott Brown effect is taking hold at Somerset Park as celebrated a 2-0 win over Arbroath as their new manager watched on. Prior to kick-off, the 38-year-old was announced as the new Ayr United manager in an ambitious move by the Somerset Park outfit.

The Celtic legend is back in football management after a short spell out of the game and will link up with former Hibs teammate Steven Whitaker, who joined him at Fleetwood. Jim McIntyre’s side were beaten 2-0 before Broony takes charge.

Broony, who made over 600 appearances for Celtic, will be relishing a return to Ibrox after the Championship side drew last years Semi-Finalists, Rangers. Ayr are an ambitious club and were unfortunate to run out of steam last season having been impressive for large parts of the season.

Brown will link up with Technical Director, Aiden McGeady, who he spent three seasons at Celtic. It will be interesting to see whether any Celtic players make temporary switches to Ayrshire to link up with Brown, who Brendan sent Bosun Lawal and Adam Montgomery to learn under last summer.
