Manchester United are set to allow Scotland Internationalist Scott McTominay to depart the club in the summer. The 27-year-old has been linked with Celtic over the last few years, including heavily in the summer; however, having been United’s best player this season, he was expected to remain at Old Trafford.

According to MEN Sport, Sir Jim Ratcliffe is keen to reshape the team and that will lead to the departure of eleven first team players – including McTominay.

Celtic have been linked with McTominay on various occasions over the years. The first in Rodgers’ last season during his first season and then again while Neil Lennon was at the club. However, he was heavily linked in the summer as being a marquee signing for Brendan Rodgers.

Transfermarkt rate McTominay at a lofty €28m, which is perhaps ambitious given that his deal expires next summer. There is a possibility that there could be an interest from McTominay’s end, especially given the family connection to Celtic. Although, realistically, it is unlikely that the Scottish Champions would move for McTominay.

In 29 appearances this year, McTominay has come up with 8 goals and 2 assists with many of these coming at vital moments. Without the interventions of the midfielder, it is possible that Erik ten Hag could have found himself out of a job. Hopefully McTominay can continue this form in the summer when Steve Clarke’s team travel to Germany for the Euros.
