It has been widely reported that Peterborough United have received contact in regards to a potential transfer bid for star striker Siriki Dembele. The 24 year old forward is the brother of Celtic teenage sensation Karamoko, but Posh chairman Barry Fry has suggested that both Celtic and Rangers are interested in signing the player.

That news was (allegedly) first revealed by Football insider, who have spoken with Celtic columnist Frank McAvennie to discuss the potential transfer battle. Given that Odsonne Edouard and Leigh Griffiths’ futures are in doubt, it goes without saying that the Hoops need to sign at least one striker. In that sense, McAvennie feels it is crucial that Celtic bring Siriki Dembele to the club ahead of their rivals.

He said: “If his brother (Karamoko) isn’t getting a game, I’m not sure how he could convince Siriki to come. Barry Fry was doing the same thing when Ivan Toney was getting touted around. He really knows his stuff. He’s had a good season but we need a striker who can get us into the Champions League. Is he the man to do that, I’m not sure. But again, if it’s between us and Rangers, I want us to sign him.”

Siriki Dembele scored 12 goals and earned 11 assists during Peterborough’s promotion-winning League One campaign.
