Celtic namechecked as admirers of Tottenham’s Eric Dier

Celtic have been namechecked as being one of the club’s who admire Tottenham Hotspur man Eric Dier. The Hoops are on the lookout for more additions as we head towards the end of the summer transfer window of 2023 and names are appearing thick and fast from various sources. The Spurs utility man is the latest in a long list of players to be linked so far.

Brendan Rodgers will no doubt know Dier well from his time in the English Premier League, locking horns with Tottenham when he was in charge of Leicester City. The England cap has endured a somewhat mixed time of late and has been rumoured to be struggling to renew his contract at the moment with the English side.

90min have now reported that Celtic are just one of many admirers of the former Sporting CP player, along with teams at home and abroad. It would be a very difficult deal pull off if it were to be firmed up with concrete interest but it is definitely a player that would enhance the current Celtic team and squad more generally, that’s undeniable.

Although, with Gustaf Lagerbielke on his way to Parkhead, if Dier were to be brought in you would imagine it would be as a midifelder to add more steel and pace in there which is still sadly missing. Celtic do have money to spend this window so it wouldn’t be completely out of the question signing Dier, but it would be an extremely challenging deal to pull off, no question about it.

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.
