Former Celtic attacker Darren Jackson has said that Ange Postecoglou needs to be able to win ugly as well as playing attacking football. Celtic sit 6th in the league with just three wins after seven games after Dundee United arrived at Celtic Park and earned a point.

Speaking to The Sun, Jackson says that Celtic fans expect attacking football but the team must find a way to grind out results.

“The manager will probably say injuries and no consistency of team selection is part of the problem right now but it’s not good enough.

“ Coming off the back of the Livingston result, you have to win the next game at home without doubt and they didn’t.

“It doesn’t matter how you do it. Winning ugly at times is as important as playing nice football at times and winning comfortably.

“Everyone wants to play total football, but I played in Celtic teams when you just have to win.”

Celtic have suffered from a substantial amount of injuries over the last few weeks with key players dropping out. Jackson is right in his estimations that Celtic need to be able to pull results out the bag and the game against Dundee United was certainly one of the games that appeared to be a tough fixture against a stubborn side.

Gordon Strachan could do well passing some of his knowledge on how to win ugly. However, it will be up to Ange to utilise his threadbare squad and best deliver results. The Australian has been dealt a difficult hand since his eventual arrival in the summer and it’ll be a test of his management if he can propel Celtic into a spell of form.
