Celtic are not considering a move for Jonny Evans. The central defender left Leicester City at the end of last season and was linked with a reunion with Brendan Rodgers at Celtic.

However, a report from Football Scotland has quashed this rumour as it’s confirmed that Celtic aren’t looking to sign the Ulsterman.

Evans, a Premier League winner with Manchester United, was a key part of Leicester’s defence under Rodgers and the suggestion was that he would take up a Kolo Toure-esque role as he transitioned into coaching.

Rodgers and Evans are reported to have a good relationship but it’s the 35-year-old’s intention to remain in England.

Evans is currently training with Man Utd as he hunts for a new club. It is clear that it won’t be Celtic. The veteran defender will likely attract a degree of interest from Championship teams as well as Premier League sides looking to shore up their defences.

Celtic have Cameron Carter-Vickers and Carl Starfelt as ‘first pick’ central defenders whilst Yuki Kobayashi and Stephen Welsh offer back up. It wouldn’t be a surprise if another defender were signed by Rodgers in the next few weeks.
