Celtic is on alert regarding a the return of the full allocation at Ibrox after an update this afternoon. It has been revealed that theRangers have allocated Newcastle United fans the entire Broomloan Stand for a pre-season friendly for Allan McGregor’s testimonial.
Today theRangers confirmed that they will remove the Union Bears from the Broomloan Road Stand and instead trial a singing section in the Copeland Road End. This would tie into what the new club’s incoming Chief Executive James Bisgrove has suggested regarding the copying of a rail seating section at the Govan club.
In an update, theRangers confirmed that the Broomloan Stand, the traditional Celtic End at Ibrox, would be occupied solely by supporters from the North East of England, Scottish Sun reports. “Newcastle supporters have been allocated the entire Broomloan Stand for the fixture, with season ticket holders in this area able to purchase an alternative seat in an exclusive ‘movers sale’.
“Additionally, a trial singing section will be created in section CF3 of the Copland Stand for this fixture, and again, affected supporters in this area can purchase a seat in the ‘movers sale’.”
Celtic fans have been limited to just 700 tickets in recent seasons but most recently did not take any tickets citing safety concerns. This will likely continue given the circumstances around the reduced allocation.
Bisgrove said that he will engage in discussions with the relevant stakeholders about the allocation moving forward. The return to the full allocation would be reciprocated at Celtic Park, allowing large amounts of fans to attend, which deep down the majority of fans of both clubs would want to see happening, although perhaps few will admit it.
Celtic we understand have no interest in reverting to the 800/700 away allocation for Celtic Park and Ibrox after the latest incident where a Celtic supporter had a bottle smashed over his head on 2nd January this year. And the Scottish Champions have made their preference quite clear and that is a return to the traditional allocation at each ground.
Whether that happens or not remains to be seen, but the news today proves that it is possible.
