It is a tight game at Celtic Park against a spirited Dundee side, but Celtic, even without the injured McMenemy, win through with a goal scored by young Andy McAtee while the Celtic defence of Shaw, McNair and Dodds look all the more impregnable the oftener they play together.

SATURDAY 18 OCTOBER 1941

Celtic’s miserable war-time form continues with a 2-2 draw at St Mirren today in front of 6,000. Wearing all green jerseys, the team started poorly but deserve credit for a late fightback and goals from Jim Nelson and John Divers at least earned a point for the shambolic organisation that Celtic were in 1941.

MONDAY 18 OCTOBER 1965

51,423 are at Ibrox to see Celtic, after having been none too impressive in the first game, win tonight’s replay of the Scottish League Cup semi-final 4-0 against Hibs. It was an excellent display of attacking football with goals from Joe McBride, John Hughes, Bobby Lennox and Bobby Murdoch and sets Celtic up for the final against Rangers on Saturday.

SATURDAY 18 OCTOBER 1975

Match abandoned at Parkhead! This rare event occurs in the 83rd minute of the game when the referee Ian Foote has no option but to abandon the game because of dense fog. Hibs are far from impressed for they are deservedly winning 2-0 at the time, and they argue they should be awarded the game because there had been a crowd disturbance earlier which had delayed things. Alex Edwards however does not help his cause by making obscene gestures to the Jungle. Fortunately, because of the fog, no-one sees him! When the game is replayed in December, Celtic earned a 1-1 draw.

SATURDAY 18 OCTOBER 1980

Celtic almost threw it all away today at Cappielow today by being 3-0 up, getting complacent and in the end being very happy to hear the full time whistle as Morton, inspired by ex-Celt Andy Ritchie, fought back magnificently to make the final score Morton 2 Celtic 3. Earlier Charlie Nicholas, Roy Aitken and Frank McGarvey had scored for Celtic.
