SATURDAY 6 JANUARY 1912 – The euphoria engendered by the New Year’s Day win over Rangers has dissipated somewhat with a couple of weak draws against Clyde and today against Hearts. Conditions are difficult, but the performance lacks incision and conviction. Paddy Travers scores Celtic’s goal in a 1-1 draw.
SATURDAY 6 JANUARY 1934 – There is always hope in a New Year, and today, following a creditable draw against Rangers on New Year’s Day, Celtic beat Kilmarnock 4-1 at Parkhead in a performance that encourages supporters to think that happy days are not all that far away. Jimmy McGrory scores twice, and Charlie Napier and Malcolm MacDonald once each.
SATURDAY 6 JANUARY 1962 – After missing a couple of games through bad weather, Celtic return and disappoint their fans with a 2-2 draw against Kilmarnock. Conditions were far from perfect, but the annoying thing was that Celtic were twice ahead through Steve Chalmers and Bobby Carroll but twice let Kilmarnock back into the game.
SATURDAY 6 JANUARY 1973 – Celtic are suffering from a mini crisis at the moment – Jock Stein has not been well, there is a flu epidemic, Lou Macari is causing trouble about wanting away and the team have not really recovered from losing the Scottish League Cup final to Hibs in December. Today the problems intensify with an unlucky 1-2 defeat at Ibrox to Rangers.
SATURDAY 6 JANUARY 2007 – Dumbarton make one of their rare visits to Parkhead on Scottish Cup business but are beaten 4-0 by a strong Celtic side before 18,685 fans. Maciej Zurawski scores twice in the first ten minutes, Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink adds another before half-time, then in a pedestrian second half, in which some Celtic fans are even heard encouraging the Sons of the Rock, Derek Riordan adds another.
