ON THIS DAY in 2013 two former Celtic captains faced each other in the dug-out at Celtic Park and Neil Lennon emerged as the winner as Celtic hit Dundee Utd for 6 in an 8 gaol thriller.
Jackie McNamara had made a good start as manager of the Tangerines and his side arrived at run-away league leaders Celtic, full of confidence after a decent cup win over the new Rangers in the Scottish Cup.
Watch out for the scorer of the opening goal in this match – the first but not the last time we’d see that sort of strike and also for the Bobby Madden Honest Mistake in awarding the visitors a penalty after an excellent ball winning challenge from Adam Matthews. Even by Madden’s own standards, it was an incredible decision.
Celtic lost the first and last goal in this game – that one was scored by Johnny Russell who had an eye on a move to Celtic at that time, but luckily enough for us, Neil Lennon’s side was in irresistible form and the goals were flying in.
Lennon had assembled a very good Celtic side that season and had young guys like James Forrest and Tom Rogic coming off the bench.
The team was Forster, Matthews, Izaguirre, Ambrose (Kayal 71), Wilson, Mulgrew, Commons (Rogic 73), Ledley, Wanyama (Forrest 76) Stokes and Hooper.
