Celtic Park named as best stadium in Europe, better than Man Utd and Real Madrid

Celtic Park has been named as the best stadium in Europe by a recent survey. The home of the Scottish Champions is renowned for its phenomenal atmosphere, especially on European Nights. The supporters play a unique role in creating a vibrant atmosphere, namely Ultras Groups North Curve Celtic and Bhoys.

TicketGum has taken into account the atmosphere, the capacity of the ground and other factors when creating the list. These other factors include the average number of goals scored, the monthly attendance, Google reviews, global search volume and the amount of attention stadia get on social media.

Ticketgum writes: “Celtic Park in Glasgow, Scotland, brings it home for the “Bhoys In Green”, ranking second place as the best football stadium in the world.

“With a seating capacity of 61,927, a similar size to Brazil’s Mineirão, this stadium is the home of the Celtic football team. Celtic Park also has the same average goals scored per game, 4, as Mineirão, as well as the same Google ranking, 4.7.”

Celtic are beaten on the global list by Brazilian side Cruzeiro but boast the title of being the best stadium in Europe, beating Wembley Stadium, Manchester United’s Old Trafford and Real Madrid’s Santiago Bernabeu.

1) Mineirao – Brazil – Cruzeiro

2) Celtic Park – Scotland – Celtic

3) Wembley – England – England national team

4) MetLife Stadium – USA – United States national team

5) Estadio Olimpico Universitario – Mexico – UNAM Pumas

6) Estadio Azteca – Mexico – Club America, Cruz Azul, Mexico

7) Old Trafford – England- Manchester United

9) Santiago Bernabeu – Spain – Real Madrid

10) Gillette Stadium – United States – New England Revolution

Clearly there is no space for Ibrox on the list, nor Tottenham Hotspur’s new stadium. The latter is a surprise given the significant investment in facilities at the new ground.

Celtic fans have sold out season tickets once again with the capacity crowd eager to return to Paradise after Brendan Rodgers was reappointed as manager following Ange Postecoglou’s departure to Tottenham Hotspur. There are also three Champions League Group Stage matches to look forward to, where the atmosphere will likely ramp up.

The stunning Main Stand brick facade at the end of the pristine Celtic Way gives players the fine welcome that the stadium deserves. The North Stand, Lisbon Lions and Jock Stein stands are much better in terms of their facilities, however.

Celtic Park could further improve with changes in the main stand as well as fan experience but the latter is governed by licencing laws involving alcohol at football. Celtic’s Kerrydale Suite and newer operation such as the Sports Bar, continue to offer fans an opportunity to enjoy the facilities at the club but you cannot help but feel that there is more that could be done around the ground.
