CELTIC agreed to pay substantially more than they were legally required to do so to Bolton Wanderers Administrators when signing Luca Connell from the financially struggling English side.
Celtic announced the signing of Connell on a four year deal this morning, ten minutes after we were lazily told to expect a delay in the deal. Yesterday Luca formally advised the Bolton administrators that he wished to terminate his contract as a development player and under the rules required only to give 14 days notice.
Celtic would have been required to pay a small cross border development fee for the 18 year old of around £250,000. But Celtic have stuck a deal with the club’s administrators – in England there is none of this holding company that operates the club stuff – and have paid more that they would be legally obliged to in order to get the deal done and dusted today.
And if the money assists in keeping a proud club going then that surely is a good thing too? Well done Celtic, was the message from the people currently running Bolton.

Meanwhile Luca has done his first interview as a Celtic player with Gerry McCulloch who must be on double time for all the additional work he’s had to do over the last few days!
