Celtic are currently in the middle of a vast rebuilding job as Ange Postecoglou takes charge of the club for training today. With Postecoglou in the building, pre-season friendlies in the next few weeks and the start of competitive action just weeks away, the club need to get started signing players. Mario Vuskovic from Hajduk Split has been linked but today, Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo are linking the club with a move for Piero Hincapie.
The Ecuadorian central defender is rated highly by Talleres de Cordoba as he impresses at the Copa Americas along with the fact he is contracted to 2025. However, dominant performances have meant that clubs are looking at raiding the Argentine outfit for their 19-year-old defender with the fee of £8m suggested.
Clubs from across Europe have been linked with a move in the Spanish report including Spanish Champions Atletico Madrid, Real Betis, Jose Mourinho’s Roma and PSG. The player will likely prefer a move to one of these teams given the league that they play in and due to the fee, it may be above what Celtic would be willing to pay. However, the club can offer a unique pathway for players – referencing Virgil Van Dijk, Victor Wanyama and even Kris Ajer.
A player like Vuskovic is probably a better purchase for Celtic but Hincapie would certainly be an interesting proposition. The player’s value is likely to soar in the next few seasons and whoever signs him will need to offer a pathway to one of Europe’s top teams.
