Celtic find themselves in an interesting position with their rebuild this summer, especially when it’s not quite clear how much new money is going to be spent.
There were several big-money signings last summer that didn’t pay off and it’s unlikely that the money on players like Barkas and Ajeti can be recouped, while it’s also likely that a Covid-19 will limited finances a bit.
On the other hand there are several positions that need to be filled and a title to be won back, but it still feels like we’ll see a few modest signings in several areas rather than two or three “big” signings.
That could change if either Eddy or Ajer leave, and a report from Tuttomercato about Hadjuk Spilt defender Mario Vuskovic does suggest he’s more likely to be a replacement for the Norwegian.
They claim that the Croatian side are looking for €6m plus add-ons to make the deal happen, so it’s hard to see Celtic stumping up that kind of cash without selling someone significant first.
Ajer’s situation is also complicated by his contract so there’s a good chance that Celtic will be forced to sell him this summer to avoid the prospect of letting him go for nothing, so Vuskovic looks like a solid replacement.
This interest is slightly unusual because there’s no manager in place just now so it could suggest that something is close to happening behind the scenes, so it will be interesting to see if it goes any further once the appointment has been made.
