Celtic reject Russian transfer approach for Reo Hatate

Celtic have reportedly knocked back an approach for Reo Hatate from Russia. The Scottish Champions have declined the opportunity to enter into negotiations with an unnamed Russian side who want to sign the Japanese star.

According to Mail Online, Celtic have rejected the approach due to the importance of Hatate to the team but also due to the ongoing war in Ukraine.

There are legal and ethical difficulties with dealing with Russia, who launched an illegal war in Ukraine over two years ago. UEFA have sanctioned Russia in European competitions but the MIR League continues. It is the correct approach from the club but fans will want the news to be that of incomings rather than outgoings.

Since arriving from Kawasaki Frontale in January 2022, Hatate has made 87 appearances, scoring 16 times and assisting on 19 occasions along with winning three leagues and two Scottish Cups.

Celtic will want to keep Hatate, especially with Matt O’Riley linked with a record move to Atalanta. The Norwegian Internationalist has a number of admirers who look to take him from Celtic this summer in what would require a record bid.
