Celtic seal place in League Cup Final after win at Hampden

Celtic are in the Final of the League Cup after beating Kilmarnock in a miserable evening at Hampden. The holders will have the chance to retain their trophy on the 26th of February against either Rangers or Aberdeen, who face each other tomorrow.

Goals from Daizen Maeda and Giorgos Giakoumakis confirmed that the Celts would return to Hampden. However, it was a hard fought affair with conditions causing chaos as well as a hard-drilled Killie team.

Daizen Maeda scored after eighteen minutes thanks to a loose attempt at a clearance from Kyle Lafferty, who returned after his ten match suspension for using sectarian language.

Celtic sealed the victory with a late goal from Giorgos Giakoumakis. The Greek striker has been linked away this transfer window but took his goal well after David Turnbull’s shot was parried. Giakoumakis certainly enjoyed his goal, taking the acclaim of the Celtic support.

Ange will now turn his attentions to St Mirren visiting Celtic Park on Wednesday. Although, this time tomorrow evening, Celtic will know who stands between them and a six League Cup win in seven years.
