Celtic set to appoint former Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool transfer guru

According to a report in the Scottish Sun, Celtic look set to appoint former Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool transfer guru Steve Hitchens to an advisory role as part of Ange Postecoglou’s team. The former scout has been absent from the game after leaving Spurs recently and was attracting interest from Everton.

However, the report claims that due to Ange and Hitchen having some mutual friends, it appears Postecoglou may have another ace card to play in terms of his recruitment structure and strategy moving forward. Having been at the club over a year now, the Aussie is subtely moulding the set-up and minutiae behind the scenes at Celtic Park into his very own creation.

Postecoglou already added the experience of ex-Leeds United and Australia winger Harry Kewell to his backroom staff during the close season, and has been eager to develop various parts of the club to suit his needs and wants. It will be a welcome relief to know that Ange is at the forefront of handpicking those on the recruitment side of the club and the general style and structure at Lennoxtown.

Hitchen, meanwhile, has been known for his adept touch in the transfer market. The former Derby County co-Director of Football brought Luis Suarez to Liverpool during his time at Anfield, whilst he had extensive experience at White Hart Lane with Daniel Levy. Throughout his time he was responsible for the procurement of gems such as the imperious Luka Modric during a successful spell in North London.

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.

  1. This guy won’t be dealing with Luis Suarez etc if he arrives at our door that’s for sure. Hopefully he’s well versed in the bargain basement as well.

  2. Good God. A guy with vast experience and contacts may choose to work for Celtic and still people, so-called supporters, find the need to rubbish the appointment before it is made. I suppose it is good that John has made Mr Hitchens aware that Celtic don’t have as much money as Liverpool because he probably doesn’t realise this. Good grief.
