Celtic are set to offer contract extensions on improved terms to both Reo Hatate and Liel Abada ahead of the summer window closing.

According to Scott Burns at Daily Record, Celtic are preparing to begin talks over new deals for both Reo Hatate and Liel Abada before the end of the current summer transfer window.

Brendan Rodgers is keen to reward both players with improved terms and a longer contract. Both players have been subject to transfer speculation in the past year, with Abada rumoured to be leaving this summer after new contract talks last year stalled.

Hatate was linked with a move to Saudi Arabia earlier in the transfer window aswell.

The pair have had contrasting starts to life under Rodgers so far this season. Abada has started strongly, scoring one goal and registering one assist in the opening two games of the league season.

In stark contrast, Hatate has not started either of Celtic’s first two league games, coming on as a substitute in both. With news emerging today the Japanese midfielder will likely be out for three to four weeks after suffering a grade two calf tear against Aberdeen on Sunday, the news that 25-year-old will begin talks over a new contract in Glasgow will only lift the spirits of Celtic fans alike.

Tying down Abada and Hatate is extremely good business by Celtic, with the pair two of Celtic’s best assets on and off the park.

As a side issue, this news contradicts the online stories that both players have knocked back contract extensions previously. If the club can get these two deals done then that will add to the overall successful transfer window and set us up for a great season.
