Celtic set to sign Premier League winning goalkeeper

Celtic are set to sign Premier League winning goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel on a one year deal. The ex-Leicester City stopper captained Denmark at the Euros and is now ready to reunite with Brendan Rodgers by penning a short term deal with the Scottish Champions.

The 37-year-old is available as a free agent having left Anderlecht at the end of the season. There had been interest to take him to Saudi but the player appears to be keen on a crack at Champions League football with Celtic.

Celtic will sign the player on a one-year deal with an option to extend that further. On the face of it, this is a shrewd acquisition by Celtic as they bring in an experienced No.1, who is still working at a high level. Moreover, he is someone that knows how the manager wants to play and can assist him in implementing this further in his second spell.

Schmeichel made 479 appearances for Leicester turning out for as they won the League, FA Cup and Community Shield as well as two Top 5 finishes. The latter three achievements were under Brendan.

Celtic will be keen to get this deal over the line and get Adam Idah and Paulo Bernardo confirmed, too. It is expected that another goalkeeper will be sought to replace outgoing Benjamin Siegrist, essentially someone that will look to replace Schmeichel.
