Celtic B Team will continue playing in the Scottish Lowland League after an update on Monday evening. The statement on Twitter confirmed that B Teams from Premiership would remain in the SLFL for the 2023/24 season, despite remonstrations from a number of clubs. Celtic, Rangers and Hearts will be able to put out colt sides as they look to offer a first team pathway at their respective clubs.
Celtic are second in the table, two points behind Spartans but having played a game more with Rangers in third. Stephen McManus and Darren O’Dea have worked well bringing the youngster through, giving them an opportunity to play regular football in a decent league while continuing to work at Lennoxtown.
Rocco Vata and Ben Summers were both on the pitch at the weekend in Celtic’s win over Kilmarnock. The pair are highly-rated by Ange Postecoglou and the time spent in the Lowland leagues will have undoubtedly aided their progress. Although, whilst this is a positive update, Celtic should be looking to set up a league that competes with English teams to fend off Premier League teams.
