Celtic slapped with fine for UCL pyro show against RB Leipzig

UEFA have slapped Celtic with a fine after pyrotechnics were set off in the away end during the Champions League defeat against RB Leipzig earlier this month. The governing body enjoy handing down punishment for infringements against teams, regardless of whether it enhances the atmosphere or not.

The spectacular scenes in the away end were not able to spur Ange Postecoglou’s side onto victory against the Germans. The fine incurred totals £17,069.

Celtic were beaten 3-1, thanks to a clinical final thirty minutes from the hosts. However, for large parts of the first sixty minutes, Celtic were competitive and left to rue their missed chances. Jota scored following the turn of half time, a goal that resulted in items being thrown towards the Celtic players. RB Leipzig have been fined £11,161 for this.

Celtic have two games remaining in the Group Stages, the home game on Tuesday against Shakhtar Donestk before the trip to Spain to face Real Madrid. Celtic will need at least four points from these games to seal a place in the Europa League after Christmas.

  1. Spectacular scenes? I must disagree. These Green Brigade mugs, are costing the club a small fortune after every European game. Ban them.

    Hail Hail.
