Celtic star Amy Gallacher named SWPL1 Player of the Month

Congratulations to Celtic FC Women’s title winning star Amy Gallacher who has today been named as the SWPL1 Player of the Month for May.

The Celtic striker make her own mark in the history of Celtic Football Club with that last minute winner against Hibs at Celtic Park.

It was a stunning goal, probably only one that Amy was capable of scoring and it immediately drew comparisons with her great grandfather Patsy Gallacher’s legendary somersault goal in the 1925 Scottish Cup Final.

Celtic FC Women had known extreme heartache the previous season on the last day when theRangers conceded in the final minute to allow Glasgow City to win the league and the SWPL1 taxi turned away from it’s initial destination of Celtic Park to instead head to Ibrox.

And theRangers were involved in the final day drama once again, 4-0 up against Partick Thistle in the closing seconds of their own game at Broadwood, they were well aware of the stalemate at Parkhead as Hibs held on. That 0-0 scoreline would have given theRangers the title (and a probable treble) and the taxi would again have been going to Cumbernauld.

Then news reached Broadwood that Amy Gallacher had scored for Celtic and it was a head in hands moment for Jo Potter and her staff and players on theRangers bench and the taxi-driver was told of the change of destination – this time he was going to Celtic Park!

So well done again to Amy Gallacher for her award, it’s so well deserved.
