Celtic right back Alistair Johnston has been named alongside Lionel Messi in the Copa America Team of the Tournament. The full-back helped Jesse Marsch’s side to the Semi Finals, where they were eventually beaten by Argentina.
The official tournament Twitter/X account shared their Team of the Tournament, which was selected by the Tactical Study Group, including the Celtic defender.

Johnston reacted to the announcement, stating that it was good company that he found himself in.
My spanish isn’t the best but looks like a decent XI👍🏼

AJ has been excellent since arriving in January 2023, taking over from Josip Juranovic and winning five trophies out of a possible six. The Canadian’s form in the final months of the season helped Celtic towards a League and Scottish Cup Double.
Johnston is back in training with Celtic after missing the pre-season games against DC United, Manchester City and Chelsea – all of which Brendan Rodgers’ side were victorious in. The full-back will be back in contention at the weekend but it is likely that his defensive colleague, Tony Ralston, will start against Derek McInnes’ team on flag day.
