BRENDAN RODGERS was delighted with his players after this afternoon’s comfortable 3-0 win over Airdrie in the Scottish Cup 4th Round tie.
“It was a good win. We started slowly but after that opening 15/20 minutes we were much better,” the Celtic manager said.
“This was the first game back after the break. We played with lots of quality in the game and kept a clean sheet which is great.”
That of course was thanks to a remarkable series of saves from Scott Bain just before the interval when the Celtic goalkeeper simply refused to let Airdrie score.
And after a double from Scotty Sinclair- who also missed a penalty and had a perfectly good goal I corrected flagged as offside – Timothy Weah came on to complete the scoring and signal his arrival as a very special talent.
“He’s [Timothy Weah] a great boy. He’s loving his time here, him and Oliver, and I’m sure he’ll do great for us during the rest of the season,” Brendan said.
The manager was also pleased to see Nir Bitton back in the side after a year out with a knee injury.
“It’s great for Nir Bitton as well. He’s been out for almost a year so for him to come on and get 10 minutes was fantastic.”
In summary, the manager was happy and was looking forward to the rest of the season.
“I’m really happy with the boys who are here. Whatever happens, we have a lot of really good players for the second part of the season. It’s a really good squad.”
