Aberdeen have thrown down the gauntlet to Celtic
Aberdeen continued their good start of the season by beating Dundee United 1-0 at Pittodrie to move three points clear of Celtic top of the table and an incredible nine points ahead of theRangers. Jimmy Thelin’s side have therefore piled the pressure onto the two Glasgow sides both of whom had European football in midweek.
The Dons showed great character to snatch a late win against a disciplined Dundee United side to show once again that they are to be taken very seriously.
They have thrown down the gauntlet to Celtic who take on Motherwell later this afternoon. Make no mistake this will be a tough game for us against the Steelmen, especially after our gruelling midweek game against Atalanta where we gave absolutely everything to gain a valuable point in our pursuit of Champions league progression.

Pressure on Celtic to get the win at Fir Park
Like every game Celtic plays domestically, It’s a game we must win, there is no doubt about that. There may be a couple of changes after our midweek exploits, and two more games to follow this week, but we should still have enough to win, so there can be no excuses.
Brendan Rodgers will be mindful of the need to rotate given we have three games in six days after that incredible performance in Bergamo that was energy sapping and also mentally exhausting – and that was just the Celtic supporters!
We have the experience of playing under intense pressure and more often than not, we get the result we require.. Think back to our last trip to Fir Park for example, when we snatched a win at the end when all looked lost. We will need that same spirit and determination today.

Meanwhile at Ibrox
Meanwhile at Ibrox St Mirren are the visitors and anything other than a victory for Philippe Clement will be regarded as unacceptable as it would see Aberdeen’s lead grown yet again, ahead of their trip to Pittodrie in midweek. If theRangers fail to win today they could be 11or 12 points behind Aberdeen going into their League Cup semi-final with Motherwell a week today.
What is clear that this season Aberdeen are in the mix for honours and that has to be good for the game in Scotland. What a cup tie we have against them this coming Saturday – absolutely mouth-watering.
But before that six points please Bhoys against Motherwell today and Dundee at Celtic Park in midweek.
