Celtic tipped to complete the signing of big-name forward this summer on loan

You can’t blame a player for trying to play at the highest possible level, but it’s common to see very good players who become stuck at elite clubs as they’re largely forgotten about.

Xherdan Shaqiri has been seen as a genuine star during his career and he was the focal point of a very good Switzerland team at international tournaments, but he’s become lost at Liverpool as he’s little more than a back-up option.

He’s a quality player who may benefit from being the main man somewhere as he approaches his 30s, and it’s interesting to see that Celtic have been linked with a move for him this summer by Football Insider.

It’s suggested that this would be a loan move so Liverpool would surely pick up some of his salary, but it may depend on them not finding a permanent exit for him.

It’s an exciting one from a Celtic point of view as this attack could do with a real marquee signing if Eddy leaves, and this is a move that should appeal to the Liverpool forward.

He’s already played in the Premier League for a struggling side in Stoke so it’s hard to see the appeal in that, and he knows he would have the chance to win trophies, be the hero to a huge crowd and it would be the start of an exciting new project that he could be the face of.

In some ways it does seem a little far fetched but it’s not like there are several huge teams banging the door down to throw a lot of money at him, so it would certainly be worth a go.

He’s had injury issues in the past and he’s the kind of athlete who may struggle to maintain fitness if he’s out for long periods, but he would be an instant starter in Glasgow and at least this shows the club may be showing a bit of ambition in the summer market.
