Celtic v Athletic Club: team news, KO time and where to watch

Celtic face Athletic Club this evening at Paradise. The game against the Basque side will see James Forrest honoured with a testimonial that will benefit the Celtic FC Foundation and Kilbryde Hospice. Whilst the game will also see Brendan Rodgers make his return to Paradise, all focus will be on Forrest as his contribution to the football club is celebrated.

In 467 appearances, Forrest has scored 102 goals and assisted on 101 occasions. In that time, the winger has racked up an astonishing 22 trophies for the club. The Scotland Internationalist is a modern day Celtic great and is richly deserving of his Testimonial this evening.

Team News

Maik Nawrocki is set to make his debut with Odin Thiago Holm, Yang Hyun-jun, Kwon Hyeok-kyu all set to make their Paradise debuts.

Nawrocki missed Celtic’s trip to Dublin to face Wolves with an ankle knock meaning that Brendan Rodgers had to name a relatively makeshift back four. Stephen Welsh and Liam Scales started at the heart of the Celtic defence with Greg Taylor and Tomoki Iwata. The versatility that Nawrocki brings allows him to be considered an option as a right-back as well as his preferred centre-back position.

Rodgers said that he will play two teams tomorrow to spread the minutes around the team but it also important that there are no injuries collected ahead of the opener against Ross County. Cameron Carter-Vickers, Carl Starfelt and Tony Ralston are all back training, which means that the Celts are nearing full strength for the beginning of the new campaign.

Expect to see the minutes passed around the squad but there will be one certainty, James Forrest will be starting.
