Dilemma over who starts today is testament to our squad depth…

There’s been a lot of discussion amongst the Celtic supporters over who starts today’s game against Hearts at Celtic Park in the Scottish Premiership.

Record signing Arne Engels is tipped to start by most over the expense of Paulo Bernardo, but it could also be at the expense of Reo Hatate who knows? Or maybe even a curve ball and he could be slotted in at right back to give Alistair Johnston a rest after his recent injury scare while away on international duty.

Like you I don’t have a clue, only one man knows and that is Brendan Rodgers and we will just have to wait until the team sheets are released later this afternoon. Whatever side he picks should be strong enough to take care of the Jambos today. That is testament to our squad depth and strength after our late spending splurge towards the end of the transfer window.

Who could have thought that spending money would actually improve the quality and depth of our squad? We’ve been crying out for investment for a while now, and now we’ve actually done just that we are starting to reap the benefits.

Brendan yesterday talked about the supporters looking forward to this run of three games in three different competitions at Celtic Park over the next eight days, but stated that his own focus is purely on the first match and that is against Hearts.

But if that’s all he is thinking about before the game, after the kick-off he will begin at some point, start to turn his attention to the game against Slovan Bratislava in the Champions League opener on Wednesday night, and his substitutions will reflect that – provided the game today is in a comfortable position score-wise.

Job done early please Celtic.
