Being too optimistic can sometimes lead to a downfall but it would be hard to make a case for anything other than a Celtic victory at Hampden today.
Just look at the stats for the two sides. In the league this season, Celtic ran away with the title, Motherwell finished 7th. In meetings between the teams, Celtic had one win and there were two draws; while in the League Cup final, Celtic won 2-0; and if we go to a bigger picture, since Motherwell last won the Scottish Cup in 1991, Celtic have had 9 successes.
However, as I have said before, the most important aspect of a team’s attitude in a major final like this is that all the players rise to the occasion. If all the Celtic stars do that, then the outcome will be as expected. If, though, a few are out of form or, heaven forbid, go missing, then the result might be something of a surprise.
