Celtic v Slovan Bratislava – Predicted XI for UCL opener

The UEFA Champions League returns to Celtic Park in a few hours for Celtic’s opening game against Slovan Bratislava. The Scottish Champions will want to win their opening game against the Pot 4 team and kick off the new format of the competition with a win.

With team news expected from Celtic Park before 7pm, it will be interesting to see who Brendan goes with. It is expected that the manager won’t stray too far from the team that beat Hearts on Saturday.

The major question will be in the midfield given Paulo Bernardo’s impressive start to the season. The Portuguese star missed out from the starting XI at the weekend for Arne Engels, with the £11m signing scoring the opening goal.

Kasper Schmeichel will start in goals as he looks to continue his excellent start to his time with the club.

It is expected that Brendan Rodgers will continue with the preferred back four of Greg Taylor, Liam Scales, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Alistair Johnston. Auston Trusty will look to earn his place in the team in due course but you would imagine that the manager would continue with Scales in beside Carter-Vickers.

In midfield, Callum McGregor will skipper the side in the central trio with Arne Engels and Reo Hatate likely to continue. Expect Kyogo to start through the middle with Daizen Maeda and Nicolas Kühn on the wings.
