Celtic Vigo willing to sell Carl Starfelt in this transfer window

Carl Starfelt is set to leave Celta Vigo just a year after leaving Celtic to sign for the La Liga side. Football España has reported that Celta Vigo are willing to sell the Swedish central defender before the transfer window closes.

It’s putting two and two together and all that, but this has led to renewed speculation that Brendan Rodgers might be interested in bringing Starfelt back to the club, to add quality and experience to his central defensive options with at least three of the current squad members for those crucial positions seemingly unfancied by the Celtic manager.

Carl Starfelt had his critics doing his time at Celtic but he was a proved winner and formed an outstanding partnership with Cameron Carter-Vickers.  The Celtic defence looked vulnerable again yesterday with Hibs launching every throw-in anywhere near the Celtic penalty area into the box.

Brendan Rodgers yesterday spoke about adding quality in a couple of position before the window closes. Left back, where Greg Taylor still has no serious competition in the squad for his position, and central defence are surely the two priorities, especially if Matt O’Riley’s proposed move to Atalanta has fallen through.

Keeping Matt at the club for another season, or even until the January transfer window, would be a huge boost to Celtic’s chances in the Champions League this season.

So a left back and a central defender look like the two priorities. Perhaps Carl Starfelt will fit the bill for the latter?

  1. Absolute bombscare.

Keep him well away from the club. I’ve seen 18 wheel arctic lorries turn faster than him.

  2. What fee will be required? What are they asking for? No doubt wanting to break even or close?
No way will we pay that. Not a chance.
And also, as many fans will hopefully agree, having seen Starfelt perform on many occassions, his average game I think is Scales on a good day, and Scales is only going to improve.
The only way we improve the CB position is by buying a young standout player that nobody wants to sell for buttons, or by investing serious money in proven quality – who wants to play in the SPL.

  3. He is the guy who was thinking with his little head instead of the big head. Got what he deserved,no way back.
