We all know the defence needs a major overhaul in the summer, and many expected that former Preston defender Ben Davies would be arriving as part of that.

Reports earlier in the season even suggested that a pre-contract deal was pretty much done, but then he signed for Liverpool from nowhere in a bizarre deal.

He did pick up an injury shortly after arriving but he’s been fit for weeks now and hasn’t even played a minute, while he didn’t make the bench today despite numerous defensive injuries.

It can only be assumed that he was a panic signing, and he’s not going to be needed next season after latest updates suggested a new big-money signing would be arriving and Ozan Kabak would be signing permanently:

The transfer to Liverpool has looked even more strange as he continues to be linked with Celtic, while the update on Kabak and Konate shows that Celtic will have a chance to move for him again in the summer if they still want him.

There’s no telling if he’s lost confidence during this spell and he’ll be rusty from not playing, so the best idea would be a loan move with an option to buy next summer.

He’s left-footed which is always a bonus and he showed at Preston that he was developing into a good all-round defender, so if he can bounce back from this strange episode in his career then he would still be a solid signing.
