Appealing Yang Red is a waste of time, but calling out the officials is most welcome. Celtic will today find out the result of their appeal for the Red card issued to Yang on Sunday at Tynecastle at the weekend.

Don Robertson’s on field decision was overturned by John Beaton on VAR, which led to the South Korean being shown a straight red card. It was quite a ‘debatable’ decision and the club are quite right in appealing it, but in my opinion I think it’s a waste of time as it won’t be overturned. That I’m quite confident of, although I will be happy to be proved wrong, but I can’t see it.

The decision after 16 minutes was followed up by a dodgy awarding of a penalty against Tomoki Iwata, who was facing the other way and was nudged in the back as he jumped for the ball. Again, Beaton instructed Robertson to look at the monitor and awarded the spot kick, which Hearts scored.

As far as calling out the ‘incompetence’ of the match officials, well that is most welcome, and each and every one of us is behind them in this aspect. Celtic have reportedly written to the SFA on a number of occasions this season seeking clarification over some calls but decided to take this public.

The club has seen fit to call out the ‘wrongdoing’ that the team have suffered at the hands of referees and VAR, which highlights how odd the decision was. It might be a bit late in the day, but better late than never I suppose.

Some will see it as a ‘squirrel’ due to our failings on Sunday, but the biggest majority of us are big enough to own up to our mistakes, we know we weren’t good enough on the day, but neither were the match officials.

So if we can admit our failings, then so should they. All of them need to be held accountable for their failures. It won’t change the outcome of the game, but it will at least give us an explanation as to why they got such a big decision wrong.
