Ex-Celtic hero Kieran Tierney is being monitored by Real Madrid ahead of the summer transfer window. The Galacticos are in need of a left-back due to the soon to be departure of stalwart, Marcelo. The Brazilian has been a permanent fixture of Madrid sides for years now and is finally going to part company with the Bernabeau come June.
That leaves quite a space at the left hand side of the defence moving forward, with only Ferland Mendy there at present. A shuffle of the squad is on the cards for Carlo Ancelotti and publication, EL ESPAÑOL are reporting that Tierney is one of the options being considered by the Spanish giants to replace Marcelo.
Tierney has been a hit at Arsenal since his £25 million move back in the summer of 2019. Despite recurring injury problems over the past three seasons, he has still managed to contribute substantially and was even muted as a possible captain of the club at some point. His drive and enthusiasm have been readily apparent this year, with 18 games under his belt – grabbing three assists and one goal in that time.
Real are said to find the move appealing die to Tierney’s clean style of defending since his move to the Premier League a few years back. Rarely carded, and with bags of energy he is seen as a really good option in that regard come the end of the season. However, the only sticking point would be the transfer fee Arsenal would demand according to the source. The Emirates club would demand a fee in excess of £30 million for the young Scot. This is seen as quite steep for someone they view as a competitor for Mendy rather than taking the first spot entirely.
They do have other irons in the fire, with Sergio Regullion of Tottenham Hotspur also mentioned in the same article. Although it looks like Tierney would be the favourite to take the berth that the imperious Marcelo is now vacating.
When Kieran left Celtic surely there was a sell-on clause inserted by Peter Lawwell and the Board. You would imagine so. If true, Ange and the club could be in for another windfall.
