Celtic would need to pay at least £2m for Scottish Premiership striker who’s hurt them in the past

Playing well and scoring a goal in a victory over Celtic is a sure-fire way to get yourself linked with a future transfer, and that seems to be the case for Livingston striker Lyndon Dykes.

We saw in Livi’s 2-0 win over Celtic last season that he can be an absolute pest up front with the ability to put the ball in the back of the net, but you do wonder how important the pitch was on that day.

The ball doesn’t bounce properly at the Tony Macaroni Arena so it’s a nightmare for defenders, and that allows hard working strikers to use their physicality to cause all sorts of issues.

Despite that, you could argue that Lenny could do with another option up front – someone who is more physically imposing in the aerial game and Dykes could fit the bill.

A report from Glasgow Live quoted The Mail on Sunday in saying Livi would be looking for at least £2m to let him go, so Celtic would need to be very confident about his ability to pay such a big fee.

Over his career his stats won’t blow you away, but he had a very productive season for Livi with 12 goals and 10 assists, so it does show you there’s more than goals to his game.

He also seemed to relish the responsibility of leading the attack and becoming the talisman for the side, so having someone who has shown the willingness to step up and lead is also admirable.

Discipline can occasionally be an issue and it would be important to find a way of channeling his aggression into the right areas of his game, but that will also come with experience.

To sign Dykes you have to think that either Bayo or Klimala would need to leave first, but there’s a lot to like about Dykes’ game and he could be an interesting addition to the squad.
