CELTIC have earned an incredible £916,500 from the World Cup which concludes on Sunday when France play Croatia in the Final.

Belgium will play England in the third place game on Saturday and Dedryck Boyata will be part of the squad as Celtic’s daily payments continue to mount while our players remaining involved in the tournament.

Celtic sent four players to the World Cup – Boyata becomes the most successful Celtic star ever to play in the competition – winning all three matches he started and reaching the semi final stage.

The other Celtic were Mikael Lustig who helped Sweden reach the quarter finals before two yellow cards meant that he was suspended as the Swedes lost to England and Tom Rogic and Cristian Gamboa whose Australian and Costa Rican sides went out at the group stages.

Celtic earned £6,408 per player per day for the time that they were involved in the World Cup so Lustig and especially Boyata’s success has kept the funds flowing to just short of a cool million.

Meanwhile Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has stated that the third place match is something that the players and coaching staff could all do without and reckons that maybe it’s time to scrap it altogether.

Asked if the Belgium and England players will want to play in this match Rodgers said: “Players won’t. Coaching staff, not necessarily.

“There’s nothing to be gained from it. It’s an extra game on to a very long season and the beginning of another one.

“It might give other players the opportunity to play but I think once you are knocked out, especially at the semi-final stage, you really want to get back to your family, have a break and resume your next season.”
