CCV on a new deal is top business just like Calmac, O’Riley, Hatate, Kyogo and Maeda, but we still need fresh faces…

Cameron Carter Vickers yesterday signed a new improved deal that ties him to the club until 2029.

That has to be applauded as Celtic’s Big Strong Man is the best defender in the country and he’s an absolute rock at the back for us. He’s also a leader and we need players like him at the club in our pursuit of silverware.

CCV joins the likes of Callum McGregor, Reo Hatate, Kyogo, Daizen Maeda and Matt O’Riley in committing his long term future at the club in the past few months, and that has to be regarded as shrewd, intelligent business by the Celtic Board. Credit where it is due and all that.

That is the nucleus of our side, so it’s to the club’s enormous credit that they have managed to persuade them all to sign on for the long term, investing in out top players and rewarding them financially for the success they have already helped bring to our football club.

It not only makes us stronger on the park, but leaves us in a secure position when interested clubs inevitably come calling, as inevitably will be the case.  And it also makes us a more attractive option when we are in the market for new signing because the better quality young talent will perhaps consider a Celtic offer more carefully when they look at what the aforementioned current Celtic stars have achievement, their share of the reward via new contracts and their enhanced status in the game.

Only this week Atletico Madrid bid around £20m for Matt O’Riley while also summer Jota left Celtic in a £25m deal and is currently earring around £200k per week – after making his name at Celtic.

This latest deal is great news shouldn’t let us forget about our lack of transfer incomings this window. Far from it, because as good as getting CCV signed up is, we are still in need of a couple of fresh faces to beef up our squad, provide additional quality for Brendan to work with and to essentially fill in the gaps in the first team that the support are well aware of – we’re not daft you know!

Let’s hope the club are looking to rectify that as we speak.
