Celtic’s Deadline Day revolving door – Engels and Trusty in, Tomoki and Nawrocki out

News of two potential departures today as both Maik Nawrocki and Tomoki Iwata could be allowed to leave Celtic on loan with options opening up for both players ahead of the 11pm transfer window deadline this evening.

Maik Nawrocki

Tomoki Iwata is a target for Chris Davies at Birmingham City as Brendan Rodgers’ former right hand man looks to the Scottish Champions after having a few raids on the Ibrox squad this summer.

With the arrival of Arne Engels, whose best position is possibly the number six, Tomoki is likely to fall further down the pecking order and like Nawrocki, he has yet to feature this season. The arrival of American defender Auston Trusty will also mean that the Polish centre-half will find getting minutes at Celtic challenging, so he may fancy a loan move to get game-time.

Tomoki Iwata in action during the Scottish Premiership football match against Hibernian on Dec. 6, 2023.

Celtic will want to get the Engels and Trusty deals concluded before making calls on these two possible exits.

Watch out for the possible arrival of Luke McCowan as Celtic might nip in ahead of Hibs before the window closes.

  1. As much as our 25man squad is looking in a better overall position than what we had in place a year ago imo?
There has been some surprising decisions made by Rodgers in the structure of how he intends to finalise it all the same?
The biggest attraction for a player wanting to join ourselves is the prospect of CL football on offer?
Yet if there isn’t a place available for them within Rodgers plans for the finalised 25man squad, then he probably has a very unhappy player on his hands, which is possibly best all round to let him look to get game time elsewhere?
Yet, Rodgers is facing the tough decision making process in forming his squad all the same?
This is the effect that the 8 homegrown quota required has upon our squad, and still we haven’t resolved the problems that exist still?
Personally believe that rocki is a better backup choice for CCV than Welsh?
But Welsh is a requirement for our homegrown quota, so rocki misses out on a squad place?
Still with only 4 CB within our squad, and CCV quite injury prone, there isn’t much room for injuries within our CB positions?
So 2 injuries within the CB area now, then we have to turn to the academy for a CB?
So hopefully there might be a recall option in place for Dane Murray, if such a situation should arise for ourselves, but possibly won’t be allowed for our CL campaign?
The midfield areas are even more intriguing at present?
Thought Turley would have qualified as a B list player for ourselves within our CL squad?
Not so sure now, and looking like Rodgers has bigger hopes and a position within our squad, ahead of iwata at present?
Thought iwata was a very decent player as a backup option for Calmac, and would allow Rodgers to manage the game time for calmac better?
That now, doesn’t seem to be within the plans of Rodgers, especially if he’s prepared to allow iwata to leave?
Is that to make room for McGowan and help with filling our homegrown quota now?
Even with McGowan added, there is potentially still room for another midfield player to be added by the looks of things?
At present we have 7 attacking options already in place?
When you consider most games will involve 6 of the attacking options getting game time, we haven’t allowed ourselves to many available options, should injuries start having an impact upon our attacking options?
Our homegrown quota still hasn’t been filled yet, which is a very strange situation for ourselves still to be finding ourselves in?
The LB position remains uncertain as to what the longer term plans are for the position, especially with Taylor contract situation where it is at present?
So even with forming a better overall 25man squad in place by the end of business today, there is looking like some very surprising decisions made by Rodgers in forming it all the same imo?
